Wow....lots of choices and advice...where can I see the NYC tartan (let alone get one made out of it)....I have three sport kilts of my own and while they aren't truly the same thing, they have always gotten good reviews from those on the street. From them I was considering the armstrong, the hunting (U), or the Maclaren mod as well...I toyed with the nightstalked from Stillwater becuase I like the pattern however the length is 1.5" more than what would be proper while the Sport Kilt hits me at the right spot....the Henderson though is also a nice choice....grrrrrr....you aren't making this easy on me

Where did you get a USAF made? Is it the US Air Force or another acronym? ( I am USAF Retired) I have tried a couple places and either can't get the tartan, or it is terribly expensive.

You can take a look at the New York City tartan at www.district-tartans.com . It's a very nice tartan and Matt (Newsome) seems (according to the website) to have easy access to it.

I'll put a 6th vote in on the NYC.
Other really nice tartans (to me anyhow):
    Gordon red (c'mon it's AWESOME!)
    Huntly District
    Aberdeen
Roxburgh (looks great, and the few colour variance look good too)
Ulster (red, or the brownish/mustard colour)
    Buchanan (the brown/green MacGregor/Hastie variant)
    Jacobite

Ok, I'll stop now or this list won't end!
