This message is a reply for Hamish.
We both have the first run batch of these pins with the pin
that folded out from the back then was folded back sort of like a
safety pin. OK as an initial introduction but not as flush/flat as to
prevent catching on other objects and causing tearing of the kilt apron.
The second and subsequent batches had two pins brazed/welded
to the back of the xmarks pin and thus when pushed through the
kilt apron would lay FLAT. The pins were secured with two
removable pinching bubble buttons similiar to what holds military
ribbons/medals to a dress uniform. There is a definite term for this
type of pin; I am at a loss at this moment to name it.
This was a tremendous improvement in the pin design.
Someone with a camera who has this type of xmarks could
illustrate this fastening - a picture is worth a thousand words.

In the original batch (1st) the xmarks moderators were offered the
option of bronze/brass colored pins. Everyone else the matte finish.
Still hoping that there will be an option for GOLD or SILVER (chrome)
colored pins in the NEAR future!
    Regards;
    r.m.

The part that grabs onto the pin posts is called a clutch, so maybe it's clutch-back pins?

If this ever becomes an option, I would jump on this as well, one of each color/finish offered.

Thanks r.m., I gather then that the current fixing for the X Marks pin is very similar to that chosen by Hermann for his Norse pins:

They certainly work and are secure. I have to agree with you regarding the colours - bronze will obviously be a non-starter for the likes of you and me, and gold might be a little flashy (brass would be very nice), but chrome would be superb.

As for Mddock58's method of solving the 'droop' problem with the first batch pins: I'll have to give that a try - thanks Mddock58. May have to look for an alternative to felt though - there isn't a craft shop within fifty miles of here that I know of, and none are listed in Yellow Pages!!

Hamish, I can't speak for the majority of the pins, but that is how mine is fastened. It works great.

    Smile One or Two

I'd be in for one or two, depending on cost. What's wrong with the regular closure where the pin itself, goes into a slot and the "wheel" turns to close around it?

    Hey all,

I will wait a day or so to confirm demand, then get with the maker to see how much they will be and how long to deliver. The last run was $27 per pin, which included shipping. I may have to re-evaluate the shipping as the overseas shipping costs were higher than I anticipated, but we'll work on that later. Once I have confirmed a price, I will post back and ask people to send me an email directly with their email address, Xmarks user name, and number of pins that they would like. I will then invoice through Paypal and once I have enough paid for to complete the order, I will place it.

I will also check on alternate colors/finishes.

For reference, here is a pic of the back of the pins using the new style of closure.

    KCW,

Count me in for one as well. I like the one I have but it would be nice to have another one.

    Rab,

I don't have the dimensions handy but I don't think it would fit into a sgain dubg easily...I guessing the pin is about 2" across in each direction
    Cheers

Put me down for 2. I have the original pin back that I use as hat pins on my Balmorals but I can use a couple more. I'd be interested in alternative color/finish too, but I'm in for 2 pins regardless of color options.
