Exactly, Bubba! Diced hose are not supposed to "compliment" the kilt.

The thing with the diced hose is there should be a matching color elsewhere in the outfit, in the case of the pic, perhaps a red tie or waistcoat to offset the red in the hose. It seems to me that for a nice look the hose could compliment the kilt, the jacket or other accessories. In the case of the pic in question, all we see are the shoes, hose and most of the kilt. We have no clue what else he's wearing.

This is a thread on Kilt Do's and Don'ts with over seven hundred and sixty posts. If the reader is thin skinned or lacking a sense of humor, he or she should have desisted this thread about seven hundred and fifty nine posts ago.

If you've read this far, sit back, relax and crack open a nice cool, frothy smile. This is all in friendly fun.

    As I was saying ...

Do wear a fine looking kilt, sporran and especially the kilt pin (it's a little hard to see, but it looks interesting), as shown below.

Don't wear castellated diced hose that clash with yer kilt colors if you've got chicken legs and you're going to be photographed from the waist down unless it's a military uniform (or you don't mind a few chuckles). And if you do insist on wearing such, don't stand facing north with yer toes pointing east and west fercryinoutloud! Especially with those shoes on.

    How's that? Better? ... ;~*

    So say I.

    Scott,

Didn't mean to sound too harsh, sorry if I did. I know that what you meant was in good fun, I certainly don't believe you intended any harm. Sometimes we say things in jest without it ever dawning on us that maybe we hurt someone's feelings. I wanted people to stop for a minute and think. I thought the bit at the end about me being refered to as a beanpole or stick figure was humorus (though sadly true)

    Peace Kilted Brother!

    Sincerely

    Panache

    Hmmmm....How about this:

"Consider that some individuals may harbor opinions that view diced hose as an unbecoming fashion when wearing a kilt whose colors do not correspond to the colors of the hose dicing. Also be forewarned that my wearing such hose and drawing attention to ones lower extremities in a society that has put more and more emphasis on body image, one may be open to ridicule if one's physique fails to meet society's idealized standards of beauty (recognizing that such standards are often the product of marketing where images are digitally manipulated to set unrealistic societal norms for beauty).
A secondary consideration would be foot positioning while wearing the aforementioned hose. Putting oneself in the "first" dance position without a specific dance context may lead to unintended scorn from viewers. Lastly, choosing a period or otherwise unusual footwear style to finish off one's kilted apparel, again without a context, may incur further derision. I almost thought you were a lawyer. You covered all the bases in that disclaimer. but anyways, back to the topic!!!!

I'm with the majority here, that dude just looks goofy. More power to him for having the cojones necessary not only to wear a kilt, but in particular those socks and shoes as well.

Well the blue enamelled sporran on the left has a cantle by DJ Murray, but the sporran pouch is Margaret Morrison. The design is was made in a range of colours - Kiltstore has some of the colours available here

The matching waist plate/belt buckle for the thistle design is GM Belts, who trade as 'Glen Esk'. Again, Kiltstore have them here. I'm sure other vendors have them as well.

(I am not affiliated with Kiltstore, other than having bought some items from them).

The red one on the right I'm not sure about who makes the cantle, but again it's a Margaret Morrison sporran pouch. The Scottish Store have this design available with the belts alongsidehere - green is shown on the page but red is available in the colour picker.

    All the best
