New Stillwater Kilt Tartan Announced!

GOOD DAY, Guys I will wear this new kilt with pride and respect, I am vet (US Navy) It will be in honor of my grandfather and his 20 years in the Corp. If any way that I was disrespectful in my actions when wearing this kilt I would be lookking at a butt kicking from some elderly retirered marine. One more thing, now I am JONESING, boy I almost cann't wait, just like some little kid around the holidays, cann't wait, cann't wait, cann't wait......

I never ceased to be amazed that the kilt police are as active here as they are anywhere. Despite ubiquitous claims of tolerance for differing views, and demands that they be accepted without (see the Rules) comment, it seems that an honest businessman has somehow managed, with imaginary cause, to offend some. As a former Marine I plan on buying one or two of the kilts. As for them being made in Pakistan it does not bother or offend me. It is not were the kilt is made that makes a differance but what it reprecense and honors.
U.S. Marines donate toys to children in Pakistan. So if the Marines can do this why not get something made there.

I have been happy with my SWK's in the past so I will buy from them agian.
The Kilts are just what they clame tobe.

Personally, I'm thinking that USMC is under the control of DoN (Dept of Navy). I'm in the Navy... so umm... I'd wear it.

Does anyone else have any concerns over the fact that Stillwater is selling kilts designed to honor the USMC that are made in Pakistan?

I dunno... **** or not... I now have a Solid Black Economy, an Irish National Economy, and a Hunting MacLeod Standard. All three get me rave reviews, and all three are nice. The standard, obviously, has a better fit, but the Economies are still nice. It was certainly much easier, and less time consuming, to buy an Irish National from Jerry than to try to get HoE to send me some material to make my own!

If there was any way that I could plop down the cash for runs of the Leatherneck, Polaris, Army, and Air Force Tartans and make kilts for all that want them you better well know I would have done so.

I would love to be able to offer Custom made Dress Models in wool, in all the military Tartans. I would love to own them for myself. Last year I approached Fraser & Kirkbright, and Marton Mills and frankly I don't have the thousands of dollars that that kind of inventory takes.

Jerry, I probably won't be ordering one of your kilts as I hate Acrylic fabric, and I dislike off the rack kilts, but my hat is off to you. You fill a niche for those raised in the Wal-Mart world. And I hope you sell as many units as Steven V. That way so many more will be introduced to this world of kilts. And then my sales will go up.

I'll be honest, I've only had one cup of coffee this morning, so maybe I'm a bit edgy. But when forum members resort to this type of public observation, I feel it is time for a reminder.

If there is something about the forum any of you don't care for, remember this one, simple fact -

We're not holding anyone hostage. No one has a gun held to your head, making you visit here or read any particular threads. If you don't like things the way they are, the Log Out option is right up there in the NavBar. It is just that easy.

I finally got around to checking out the new tartan. WOW!!!!! I think I just found my next purchase! I may be a Canuck, but I'd be proud to show my support for those who bravely put their lives on the line so the rest of us can live free.

I just wanted to add that the Marines have a tradition of procuring equipment that meets their needs, regardless of its place of origin. Case in point; the AV-9B Harrier... This jet fighter was originally developed and built by another US Military ally (and the first enemy of this nation), the UK. Although now contracted from McDonnell Douglas, the engine is still built Rolls Royce. And don’t forget the “Woolly pully” sweater, which was part of the Marines official uniform when I was active. (I’m not sure if it still is.)

My only dilemma regarding the Stillwater leatherneck Kilt is deciding to get one or two. Jerry has one hell of a product!

Speaking of procurement -

I'm hoping those interested in the Leatherneck tartan are aware that the colors look different on different fabrics, due to the type of fabric being colored.

Stillwater will offer acrylic

SportKilt offers polycotton

Maybe USA Kilts will someday make a run in polyviscose

And then there's wool.

I have a swatch of the Leatherneck tartan that SportKilt sent me. I've seen a Leatherneck tartan SportKilt...my swatch had more subdued colors than the kilt which seemed to have very bright colors.

The colors on the Stillwater website showing the Leatherneck tartan seem bright - yes, I know monitors vary.

And I've seen a number of wool kilts of the Leatherneck tartan and I gotta tell you they are BEAUTIFUL! The colors are so subdued, they really pick up the color of the uniforms. There's a quiet strength to the look of a wool Leatherneck tartan kilt.

I'm not minimizing SportKilt's offering, or Stillwater's pending release, or the possibility of a polyviscose run from USA Kilts. They offer what they offer for those who want them.

I would encourage anyone with deep feelings about their own service, or honoring the service of others to treat their eyes to the beauty of a wool Leatherneck tartan kilt, or at least a swatch of the wool Leatherneck tartan, before they make their buying decision.

For a few dollars more you can treat yourself and stand tall.

Think I'm drifting off topic, just realize there is a beautiful option, if you can afford it.
