The Maple Leaf is my tartan of choice, as you can see from my icon!
In Days of yore,
From Britain's shore
Wolfe the dauntless hero came
And planted firm Britannia's flag
On Canada's fair domain.
Here may it wave,
Our boast, our pride
And joined in love together,
The thistle, shamrock, rose entwined,
The Maple Leaf Forever!

Cirthalion: I love "The Maple Leaf Forever" -- I have a great version of it on the pipes as played by the band of the 48th Highlanders of Canada. In fact, the Piper at our wedding played it, along with a French-Canadian tune (the name escapes me) as we left the church.
Regards,
Todd

From the photos it looks as if a strip of tartan is used as a belt or sash, attached to the the left side of the kilt and, running to the right, is wrapped around the waist and tied in a knot at the left waist/hip bone.
I would guess buckles could cut an opponent and cause unintended injury, as well as be easily ripped off the kilt, or provide a grip for an opponent.
Guesses on when wrestling will be a sport in highland games? or perhaps highlander tossing?

Uhh… wrestling has long been an event at Highland Games. See the center photo here.
As for Pro Wrestling, I rather doubt that will ever come to the Highland Games, but the wrestlers mentioned above would probably be welcomed as Special Guests.

I second the Maple Leaf I.D. It does look rather neat...the swatch pictures don't seem to do it justice. The colours blend very well.

Although the names of the two sports are spelled identically, I should have written the name of the other one phonetically, as it is pronounced, "rasslin."

That's quite the claim to fame!
I wish the WWE would give these two guys more ring time. They're actually pretty skilled in the ring.

I too am a huge wrestling fan , I meet up with the highlanders through the band Mudmen, Sandy and Rob Campbell are world class pipers that head up a heavy rock band thgey also wear CCK's.
Somehow, someway, I've got to get you to set me up with a "chance" meeting. I'm seriously becoming a fan of The Highlanders.

When you're allowed to share... please do!
I did notice Roddy has not been wearing the same tartan as in that picture. Wallace, you say? I guess I have to get me some.

An additional note on Rowdy's own tartan... according to the International Tartan Index it was designed by Roderick Toombs, which is Piper's real name... He designed the thing himself.
I wouldn't mind a kilt in it (as I am also a huge WRESTLING fan--that's right, I pronounce it correctly), but it's kind of a plain tartan...
However, since he's wearing Wallace now, I could deal with that... It's a good looking tartan, as is the Maple Leaf as well.
