    Lochcarron Update

Passing through Galashiels last week I noticed that the old Lochcarron premises where I had met Robin back in the summer are now demolished. Lochcarron have relocated to Selkirk. My 13oz. Spirit of Scotland which was constructed by a local kiltmaker and purchased via the Kilt Shop of Galashiels using material woven at Lochcarron Galashiels was in fact within a few yards of Lochcarron's new premises in Selkirk when I wore it to a housing association board meeting in Selkirk this evening.

Lol...we both were probably the last Galashiels visitors:rolleyes:

Is the new Selkirk plant worth a visit?

Didn't really get a chance to see it this evening as it was dark and at that time of night they would probably be closed. However, Lochcarron are the new next door neighbours of the Housing Association HQ and I go there about twice a month so I'll find out more about the new Lochcarron, including whether there's a Visitor Centre and shop and if so the opening times.

    A related question......

My four yard box pleat kilt from Matt Newsome in the Carolina District tartan was made from cloth woven at D.C. Dalgleish & Sons of Selkirk Scotland. Is there some sort of consolidation of mills? Or perhaps one of the more insidious buyouts going on there? Does this have anything to do with the infiltration of the Royal Mile with sub-standard kilt shops? Just curious.

Dee, I knew Lochcarron has moved their mills to Selkirk, where Dalgleish is, but aside from just being within geographic proximity to each other, I don't think there is any other connection.

I order frequently from both mills, and neither has said anything that would lead me to believe otherwise.
