Fear not Frank,
Here in the Arizona Canyonlands the winters are cold and windy. I own three USAKilts semi-traditionals and have hiked in them in the winter without a problem.
Key is to keep the heat loss areas warm, although in this pic taken last winter, I'd slipped my gloves off for the photo. Was cold enough all the water that normally seeps out of the sandstone was frozen solid. Icecycles everywhere. A bleak and cold day and I was warm and toasty in my Ireland's National semi-traditional with kilt hose, jacket, and cap.
You can't go wrong with Rocky and Kelly.
