Consider yourself lucky that it was only the pipe. Morrison posted a hilarious inventory of what he found in his UK pockets in an earlier thread.

    Be thankful, today and always,

That's not to bad. I forgot my favorite briar in the pocket of a pair of trousers once, and stepped on it Snapped the wood part of the stem. Took a while before I found a pipe to replace it.

Washed a sporran? I hope there's a story. I "misplaced" a bottle of beer in my mocker a while back, took me a few minutes to figure out what the heck I did with it. The sad thing was, it was my first beer, rather than my last (sigh), I hadn't been home very long, yet. So is that age, or mere stupidity?

No, I never washed a sporran. My point was, kilts without pockets are safer because you never WOULD wash a sporran.

Sorry to disappoint everyone. I washed my wallet last summer. Does that count?

I remember my first beer, too - a warm can of Pabst, about 32 1/2 years ago. I'm sorta ashamed of confessing to it - UGH!

Too bad. If it's briar, I'd let it dry out for a few weeks. You don't want the moisture of the tobacco to mix with excess moisture in the wood [which you may not even be able to see] and result in a hot, acrid smoke. Hopefully it wasn't one of your better pipes! If it happens to be a meer, it should be okay.

Unfortunately it couldn't be my meerschaum... I left that thing in a hotel over Labor day. This was my kick-around briar (that's why it was in my pocket to begin with)... It's just been a bad season for pipes in my life. I gotta get me another meer, I miss having one around...

I don't have a UK to compare woes with. BUT, I am constantly finding rogue ten and twenty dollar bills in the front flap of my Nightstalker sporran. This, of course, is always a pleasent surprise.
