I had to attend a professional development day in Glasgow today and decided to go for the casual look with the fleece jacket and navy blue acrylic kilt. The look is as shown here except that today I wore boots instead of trainers.

I drove to Larkhall and caught the new park and ride train from there to Glasgow. The journey went very smoothly and I had a half an hour to walk around before the training conference started. At that time of morning there were relatively few people about and I got asked the question by a group of three ribald young ladies to which I replied that I'd prefer to keep them guessing. Even so, I had already encountered another two kilted gents by 9am when I went to the conference venue which was the Teacher builiding (as in Teacher's whisky) in St. Enoch Square.

There was a German Christmas market taking place in St. Enoch Square and I had a walk around the stalls during the lunch break to choose a present to bring home for Ann. There were one or two kilts in evidence around the market.

The conference finished quite early and I had time for a walk up Buchanan Street and Sauchiehall Street and around George Square to see the big Christmas tree, funfair and ice rink. By now the city was busy and I saw several other guys out in kilts, both formal and casual. Apart from a wino sitting on the pavement who shouted a friendly "nice skirt, mate", nobody else paid any attention to my kilt. Kilts in Glasgow seem to have now reached that critical mass where they are now sufficiently commonplace that almost nobody gives them a second glance any more, and the kilt-wearer can blend seemlessly into the crowd without feeling self conscious.

Being an off the peg Pakistani kilt, my navy kilt is a full inch longer than my made to measure kilts but the extra length was welcome on a cold raw day like today.

By now it was beginning to rain and I made my way back to the station. A mini-rabble of three young lads in kilts got on the same train, but they all got off at Hamilton.

I enjoyed my trip to Glasgow. If I had known that I would have so much spare time while in Glasgow I could have arranged to meet you Julie.
