Favicon for XMTS
Perhaps I'm a whiner but with as distinctive a mark as the X, I think that you all (we) should have a favicon. So I made one from the unread forum icon.
Add these two lines to the <head></head> section of each page:
<link rel="icon" href="http://www.xmarksthescot.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.xmarksthescot/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
the favicon.ico and the .png file it was made from are here:
The favicon.ico: [deleted]
The .png: [deleted]
These images are stored on my web site in a temp folder. No guarentee how long they'll stay there. [they are gone now]

Reason: Icon images that I created for this post no longer require and so have been deleted from my web site

Let me guess, you're using IE, aren't you?

No, to be perfectly blunt, IE sucks. I like Opera (both kinds actually but we can save the discussion of Die Zauberflöte to another day).
At the bottom of the main Opera window there is a row of buttons, one for each open browser window. At the moment, several of them have a simple "page" icon - the Opera default when a favicon is not supplied. But, those pages that supply a favicon there is an instantly recognizable icon (much like the icons on the buttons on the windows taskbar). Using the icon is much faster than reading the button name.

How is that possible? When a quick text search of an XMTS page source will show no reference to favicons?

All the X Marks tabs on my Firefox browser start with the logo you show, Wsk Not sure where they come from but they do make it easy to pick out X pages.

Actually, the one showing in my browser has more "texture" than the one Wsk posted.

You're quite right. Very distinctive!
