Tartanweb/Scottishkilts & a minor jones
I was going to avoid declaring myself to be in a jonesing state of mind...we were brought up to be rather stoic and not complain...and you all know that I never complain (cough, cough...'scuse me...)...but I am, indeed, eagerly checking my email every morning to see if kilt number 5 is on its way. I thought that I'd share this because it touches on a kilt supplier that has received mixed reviews in the forum and this whole transaction may serve as another test-case for the supplier.
Five yard Lochcarron Campbell of Cawdor Modern pleated to the red stripe ordered from Tartanweb (subsequent email correspondence is adressed from irishkilts.net...?...hey...their company, not mine...) on November 15 with hopes that I'll get it in time to wear it for Christmas. Let's see how it goes.
Best

Hope it goes smoothly for you. Campbell of Cawdor is also the Argyll District tartan, and is on my wish list for some day. Looking forward to pics.
Best regards,
Jake

I had originally planned to order my wedding tank from scottishkilts. I very nearly did, but backed out at the last second in favor of my local shop.
If I heard nothing but glowing reviews of them (as seems to be the case with USAKilts), I would have bought, because their prices are very good. But I just saw one too many complaints about late or incorrect orders and decided that it wasn't worth it.
I was going to say that I probably wouldn't buy a kilt from them in the future - but in fact I think I would, IF it was something I didn't have any sort of deadline for. The money saved would be worth waiting a bit longer if it came to that. I haven't seen anyone complain about the quality of their product - to the contrary most people are very happy with what they got in the end .. just delivery times, incorectness and also a distinct lack of communication from them. Any problems were always resolved - I just didn't have time for problems.
I have very, very rarely seen something worth buying on the 'net unless it's something I can't get locally. Generally any taxes, duty and shipping fees eat up most of the money I would have saved. I don't mind paying a marginal premium to buy something locally where I can see and touch it before buying, never mind that I'd prefer to support my local economy.

I hope your order does go smoothly AA
I could not resist their last of the summer offer of a 5yd Hunting Stewart for £50 (see http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=20994. I filled in waist, seat and length plus height on the order form. The kilt arrived within the expected delivery time but was 3 inches too long - not the length specified.
It has gone back to be "adjusted" (to my great surprise it had a selvedge so they can't just cut it at the bottom) and I have been waiting since 11 October to see it again.
I wish you better fortune!

That pretty much sounds on par from what I've read. That's a pretty deadly deal though ..
I will say though that the pre-sale service I received was examplary. I traded e-mail with an individual there for several days and he was extremely helpful and informative - even when I expressed my concerns over some of the things I had read.
I think they have potential to be very good but it seems like maybe they've gone through some staff changes lately and are trying to recover a bit. Hopefully once they get reorganized it will get better.
