I think you Brits know them as double cuffs.
I love wearing cuff links with my business suits. They're much more comfortable than barrel cuffs.

Availability?
From what I've seen of your work it's great, a new and practical way of kilts and associated gear. What's really nice is that you have a unique perspective on how to make it more contemporary without taking anything away from it. I'd guess this will contribute to making kilts in general more acceptable as daily wear.
I'd agree with you on the Jacobite shirts, which is a reason I don't have one. I think they are okay, but I don't want to look like I'm wearing a costume by wearing one. I'm all for being perceived as eccentric wearing a kilt, but not like an oddball 24/7 re-enactor. No offense to people who like them, but I cannot see wearing them every time a kilt is worn. I don't think there is a need to scream "I'm Scottish!" Having made a few kilts myself and many commercial solid color contemporary kilts, I often wear a tartan shirt with them (L.L Bean has a few nice ones) since I have a good collection. I find people can see the kilt as a kilt, rather than a skirt wearing a tartan shirt. I work in a conservative organization and although they are more comfortable with me wearing a kilt, I still see their discomfort. I purposely do not look "costumey" when I wear a kilt, it doesn't help in the perception department.
In addition, the hemp fabric is great. Tartan (cotton flannel) shirts with long tails would be equally impressive.

That is a great looking shirt Steve.
Hamish,
I do have to agree with you about cuff links, I love wearing them. The double cuff or french cuff shirts were out of style here in the US for many years, they have made a return in the last couple of years. My favorite pair of cuff links is a pair of gold ones I inherited from my father, they were one of his college graduation gifts, they are almost 75 years old.

I like both of them Steve. I'll need to get one or 4 of them, especially when I get a job that I wear my kilt more often and to work on occasion.
As for the cuffs, now that I know what to call them, I have some and like them (I love to use my Batman cuff links). So, will there be a "french cuffed" version of the shirt in stock form, Steve? Seems to be interest if price is less than the full on custom price. I'd buy 2 of the collared versions.

Once these become generally available, I will be certainly buying a couple!

Oh wow! Those shirts are awesome Steve, I love the long length.
French cuffs would be great. I don't know if you happened to read one of my old posts about looking for a charcoal colored shirt with white cuffs and collars
but if these shirts are custom...then would something like that be possible?

I've been making all my jacobite shirts lone too. But, I like modern shirts. Let me know when they go in to production. I'd like some.

Boy, how'd I miss this thread??
Beautiful shirts. Always wanted hemp jeans when I was still wearing pants but they were only made for the lean young, not in fat guy sizes.
Now the hemp shirts are here and no fat guy sizes...sadlly, down here XXL is a pretty standard size, but them shirts are fine enough to bite the bullet and pay the custom price.
I'm also for a slightly fuller sleeve and the grandfather collar for sure.
Have been wearing a lot of grandfather collar shirts bought in western stores for reenactors. One even a linen/cotton blend I like a lot which I'm guessing is "kinda" like hemp/cotton.
Great idea, filling a need.

Quick question - What's it like when you sit down? Is there enough give to the butt area of the shirt? Or do you need to sit down a special way?
Thanks

Okay, by popular demand....and to answer some of the queries.....
The "stock" kilt shirts come with the following options:
-- a choice of collars (grandfather and normal)
-- a choice of cuffs (regular and French)
-- a choice of fabrics (100% cotton, 55%/45% hemp/cotton, 100% hemp)
-- a choice of colours in at least the hemp/cotton (black, natural, beige, blue, cranberry) and perhaps in the other fabrics [YES, WE CAN MIX THE COLOURS SO THE SHIRT BECOMES TWO-TONED; THIS WOULD STILL BE A STOCK SHIRT.]
Stock kilt shirts come with front button closure and are hemmed at the requested length. Sizing for the stock shirts is based on neck/chest measurements, and will be listed as small, medium, large, extra large. To determine what size you are, we need your neck and chest circumference, plus the requested length of the shirt. We make your shirt when we get your order. "Stock" does not mean the shirt is hanging on the rack, but that we use a stock pattern to construct it.
A shirt order becomes a custom order when what the individual wants requires us to modify the "stock" pattern. So, lengthening or shortening the sleeves, making them puffy or more flowing like some Jacobite shirts, changing the collar or the type of front closure, altering the proportions between neck, chest, etc. -- these are custom modifications.
Both stock and custom shirts are now "available". They will not show up on the Freedom Kilts website until we do the revamp of that in the new year. I will post specific sizes for the stock shirts soon (tomorrow?). But in the meantime you can e-mail me (or phone) and discuss what you are after.
I hope I have addressed most of the questions. If you have other suggestions of what should be included in "stock", please let me know.
