I see. I have a pair of Timberlands that I *do* wear with the kilt, but they're not the style seen on their "custom" page - they're a brown hiker/urban hiker style, similar to the "Euro Hiker" but discontinued a few years ago.

The black boots that I generally wear are Bates Enforcer Ultra-Lites.

And no matter how they dress up sneakers I wouldn't wear them with a kilt. Granted I don't wear sneakers much except for working out.

I kinda' hate to do this, but those are chucks; they're a type of boot.

Around here (Phoenix Metro Area, Arizona), "Chucks," or "Chuck Taylors" are Converse high-top sneakers.

    "Chukkas" are boots.

OK, I'll take your word for it; I've never heard that, and have used the terms interchangeably for low-cut boots.

...and if you look at how the CT boots are advertised, you can see why there's some confusion in my mind... I'm looking at what approximates a low top boot.

Anyway, back to the topic... I like to wear chukkas with thick socks scrunched down, and hiking boots with normal sock pushed down to the top of the boot. I'd like to get some of those Converse boots; I've been looking at them for over a year now, but I can't justify the purchase with all the boots I already own.

...and I prefer scrunched over folded; folded just looks too put together for me. I'm a more casual kind of guy; the few times I've tried to dress up the kilt, I've felt uncomfortable.

I understand the confusion, but I think of "Chucks" as Chuck Taylors, a style of sneaker, as opposed to "chukkas" which is how I refer to my boots. By the way the chukka picture you found are the ones I wear. I couldn't find them when I was searching for a pic to post.

Oh, you don't have to take my word for it.

Urban Dictionary has a few entries on "Chucks."

Stock. All black. From a distance, they look like combat boots. Very comfy.

Derek was actually the one who inspired me to get them.
