KT that kilt is REMARKABLE - well done! Which/whose instructions did you follow? Not that I will ever have the talent to emulate you in this exercise, but I am curious.
This is not to be taken as a citicism but I see something with your kilt that I see frequently with others, yet I have never before questioned it. The tartan pattern of the fringed edge of the apron does not line up with that of the pleated section which it meets. I assume this could be corrected by moving the buckle and strap slightly, but I am not sure. Perhaps I am just being picky!! For a first attempt, I think it's brilliant.

Thank you
KT,
I will be getting Barb's book for Christmas and bought some ten ounce worsted wool from e-bay to give this a shot, your two threads on building this kilt will be quite valuable to me, since you have the same measurements I do.
The kilt looks great, and I really appreciate the work you put into it, and the play by play that you put out there for us.

That looks amazing... Kudos to anyone with the patience to do that. I would have a very, very hard time learning to sew a kilt for that very reason...

Thanks all for the great comments. I wish I could get a better shot of the pleats. I pressed the he!! out of them (maybe even too much) and they are quite crisp.

Hadn't noticed that till you pointed it out. It could be that the under apron was riding a little higher than the front (shirt covered that up) and just needed to be pulled down to match. Not sure though.
The shirt was an eBay purchase from www.got-kilt.com.
The finger tips sure are sore (never ended up getting a thimble ), but I'm chomping at the bit to get the next one started. Pleating to the sett is a little different then the stripe.
