I am curious, and could search google, but what is the brief history of fighting in kilts. Who did the Scots fight? What would be a simple version to tell kids?
Thanks.
DALE.
You don't have to be Scottish to be comfortable!

I was out with some buds tipping a few and needed to make a head call. One of my pals says "hey, which bathroom do you use when you wear that?" I said, "whichever one your wife wants to meet me in."

That's terrible--terribly funny! Only use that with a good pal though unless you're looking to start a row int:

"It also takes a great deal of courage to admit you opened your mouth and inserted you foot."
This was good on the naysayer's part... it does take a pretty honest person to come up and say "Hey, sorry man..."
As far as the history of fighting in a kilt? Um...starting from when is more a question. The Highland regiments have a very coloured history...
There is even one story about how a Highland regiment took Quebec (I forget the regiment's designation, and the fort's name) during the French and Indian War with Claymores... one of the Scot's happened to speak French quite well, and that was enough to get them to open the gates (it was foggy and night time according to the book). I'll look it up later, and provide title, and page number for reference puposes.
Not sure how embelished the story was...but I find the imagery rather intriguing.

I believe it was a Scottish Regiment that score the first major Coalition victory in Iraq. If memory serves, about 150 Highlanders were surrounded by around 1500 to 2000 heavily-armed insurgents. They fixed bayonets and charged, wiping out their opponents without suffering any casualties themselves.
I hope this won't turn into a discussion about the Iraq war itself. I only intend to expand on the proud history of the Scottish Regiments.
