Don't worry about the wearability of PV - I have one PV kilt I've worn for 5,000 miles rugged backpacking (rock scrambles, waist-high river fords, glacier traverses, desert grit, knee-deep mud) and I'm still planning on wearing it for my next 3,000-mile hike along the Rockies. In that time I burned through six shirts; the kilt's still going strong.

Not to take away anything from Rocky or Kelly, as they seem to be the undisputed king and queen of PV kilts, but let's not forget that our own MacHummel and Bear* also make kilts in PV and have had great reviews. I am sure all three companies would make a kilt you would be proud to wear.
If you can't do wool, I would also suggest PV over the arcylic budget kilts. The PV is a better product and will look better too.
*not sure if Bear is taking orders again yet.

You're right, Colin - Rocky mentioned Bear and MacHummel as worthwhile possibilities when shopping for my next kilt in response to my posting on Bear's "Kilt Check" forum.

Please to note!
Frog:
Can you tell what a class joint this is? And, really, what a class act most of the folks here are? I realize it was on the Kilt Check forum, but how often will you find a niche producer giving out recommendations for his competitors?
I certainly intended to cast no disrespect to either MacHummel or Bear when I was heaping praise on Rocky and Kelly's operation. I don't have a kilt from either MacHummel or Bear (hmm . . . sounds like a personal failing I should do something about, don't it?). I have waited quite a while hoping to see signs of Bear getting back into commercial production. If he does, I'll get one, simple as that. Probably now I'll be obliged to look into a MacHummel as well! (Oh darn, poor me, eh?)
Best,

I'm one of those fools that thought you guys were just too excited about PV kilts. When I finally got around to ordering one, just to see what the fuss was about, I fell in love. I now own 13 USA Kilts with one on the way.
If I were allergic to wool wouldn't hesitate to put my hand sewn kilt money into USA Kilts semi-traditionals.
Don't think you'll get a finer testimonial to PV than from Andrew above.
Don't think you'll find an inexpensive kilt with the true VALUE that can match USA Kilts casual model.
An excellent selection of tartans that Rocky stocks.
If you really wanna spend a lot on something fancy, but not wool, don't forget the leather kilts from RKilts, UK, and Union Kilts.
If money's tight, I don't see any reason to spend it on a kilt that's not gonna last for you.
You can have any two of price, quality, or service.

Wow, could that testimonial possibly redefine the term "tank"?
Money is an issue for me right now, but I can hardly wait to get more pv USAK's.

I wouldn't call a PV kilt a "tank", but maybe a "L.A.V." (Light Armored Vehicle for those that do not know). HAHAHAHA

I, too, love my USA Kilt. It's a great choice.
It is one of many possiblities...
Think about a Freedom Kilt or
an RKilt in hemp or
an ONeille kilt....
alot of excellent choices for your next kilt(s)

I just wouldn't have suspected PV to be that durable. Nice to know though

Rocky's right - I bet a wool kilt would be holding up even better than my old 4-yard PV kilt (it's a Bear Kilt, BTW). The PV material is definitely showing its wear, but like I said it's still good to go for one more long-distance hike before I retire it.
Andrew.
