Low price 'will do for now' sporran?

I am in need of a day sporran. I plan on making one when I finish making my Argyll, but for now, I need to buy one. I don't want to spend a lot (seems kinda cliche being thrifty on a Kilt site!) because I don't plan on using it a lot. I can't justify renting (hour and a half round trip to the rental shop) every time I need one. Anyone have any positive experiences with lower priced day sporrans?

THe best one I have found to date is from still water kilts. It is their nightstalker sporran made from nylon. I use it all the time because of the room!

    Improv1,

For under $60 you can get a Buzz Kidder sporran. I have examined them closely and they are the best made / low priced sporrans out there. Stillwater Kilts sells them. Another Stillwater option is a handsome simple black braided sporran for about $35. Mine has seen a bit of use and is still in good shape. The Buzz Kidder ones are thicker and bigger though, and will likely last you many years.

    Good Luck!

You won't do better than the Nightstalker sporran from Stillwater for practicality and low price. http://pro.channeladvisor.com/storef...9&aid=37073426

If you are hunting a VERY inexpensive yet good-looking sporran, try Stillwater's "economy" sporran. It's under $20, but has all the classic looks: black leather, three tassels. This sound's like what you're after.

I believe that USA Kilts and Matt also sell the Buzz Kidder Sporrans. They look like a good low cost sporran. Alternatively, there are plenty of deals for the standard dayware leather sporrans out there including:

    http://www.jhiggins.net/catalog/sporrans_daywear.html
    http://www.kilts.com/leathersporranone.htm

and of course many of the fine companies that advertise on this forum such as stillwater, sportkilt, Celtic croft, etc.

Part of me does want to say that I think it would be a better idea to buy a higher priced product that will last you years to come rather than just a cheap $$$ sporran for the time being. While one is a quick fix, in the long run wouldn't it be nice to have a quality product that is always an option.

Having said my piece, good luck with the search.....

I will echo the comments of others about the Buzz Kidder Sporrans. while it is not a $20 dollar sporran it is an inexpensive sporran when compared to some.

It's tempting to go extreme and find a $15 dollar one on ebay but you will regret that purchase in a few months when you have to throw it in the trash from some defect beyond repair.

The BK is a great first sporran that you will enjoy wearing years from now even after you have invested in a nicer sporran.

I bought one of the black braided sporrans from SWK when I ordered my Blackwatch. They have both yet to arrive, but I figure I don't have a sporran, and my first good quality is going to have to be a dress sporran, since it's needed for my wedding. It looks alright, and it was on sale for $15. It's cheap enough that if I use it even for only a few months and toss it as soon as I can get a better quality casual, it was worth it.

    C K,

I just peeked at the Stillwater site. It looks like they are out of the Black Braided sporrans I was talking about. I haven't seen the special economy ones that Jerry brought in at $15 so I'm not sure what they are like.

    Imrov1,

A cheap 3/4" wide black or brown leather belt from the ladies accessory section the department store of your choice makes a for a good and inexpensive sporran belt.

    Cheers
