A kilted christmas.
I was invited to go to my girlfriend's grandmothers house for dinner on Christmas Day. I'm planning on wearing my kilt because I look nice in it, and it's very comfortable. Being that it isnt formal, just casual (But looking nice, mind you.) how well do you guys think my Loch Ness sportkilt would go with a navy blue sweater I found recently at a local sporting goods store? Or a black highlander shirt that I also got off of the sportkilt website? I'll put up pictures for comparison ASAP.

Without even seeing them, I would suggest the sweater. I'm just not much of a fan of the "highlander" shirt as it's too "costumey" for my taste. Plus, the sweater will give that wintery holiday feel.

Yeah. The highlander shirt does make me feel like I'm wearing a bit of a costume. The sweater does look nice and all. I'll put up a pic some time tomorrow afternoon, hopefully. Just depends on long it takes me to get the blasted camera to work...
Well, I'm off for the night. Talk to you all again soon.

ekc,
First off, I LOVE renaissance faire-jacobite-pirate shirts with big poofy sleeves*.
Second, I advise the sweater. Everything has it's place and those Highlander (Jacobite) shirts would be too theatrical for a simple Christmas supper. It would make you appear to be wearing a costume instead of clothes.
Go with a sweater and maybe a nice tie (you never get a second chance to make a first impression).
Save your romantic finery for a highland games, a renaissance faire, scottish country dancing, or other times where it will be better appreciated.
Cheers

For a function off that sort, I would say that the sweater is by far the way to go. Save the shirt for an even less formal occassion.

I agree with everyone else. Wear the sweater. Post the pics though, you may change some minds.
