While I've not gotten anything from Leatherstocking, I've got a pair of boots from SodHoppers that get about 75-100 miles per year put on them - and they're about 12 years old, have been re-soled once, new laces once, and are still the most comfortable footwear I own by several orders of magnitude.
I'd agree on "pricy," but if you break down the cost of buying new shoes instead of keeping the good ones, they break even within about six years.
I've even worn them casually, not just at reenactment events.
(And mine have a small sheath stitched inside the cuff of the right boot.)

Nice work, HHastings
Once again I'm left in awe of the craft abilities of some of the members on this board. How do you guys find the time, inspiration and materials?
Best regards
