Hmmm - I know you're a Marine Vet (I was USMCR '86-'92, Army medic since), but here's my thought -
Wearing an ancestor's Service or Branch insignia, especially if antique - sounds great. Wearing a medal, ribbon, or badge (unless that badge is obsolete) - doesn't feel right.
My opinion only; do what seems best for you.
