I love my machine washable kilts

I love my machine washable kilts because after a night of dancing, I tend to get very sweaty. I can't imagine if I have to take my kilt to dry cleaner every week.

Now I have to wonder about the care of leather kilt. I have been getting myself a leather kilt because the are very popular at the clubs that I go to. However, I dance a lot. How should I take care of the kilt if it starts to smell like sweat?

Depending what the tanning is like or rather the finish on the outside, you can just wipe it down with a damp cloth. To keep it supple you can use a cheap hand lotion. For the inside. I use a nail brush with soft bristles (Lee Valley sells a good one) and glycerin cake soap. A little bit of water and soap and I lightly scrub the waistband , and any part of the kilt that touches the skin. Rinse off the soap, you could use a spray bottle , and lightly spray with clean warm water and wipe down with a cloth. Air dry, don't use a blow dryer, let the kilt dry at room temperature. Then you will be ready to go.

I think Izzy had a deal on this too over on the Utilikilts board. She had a whole page on care and feeding and cleaning of leather kilts.

I've had two leather kilts for a couple years and haven't had the need to clean either of them and they've been worn in some grubby places. That's the beauty of leather kilts.
