Adam,
All you'll need for your 4 yard kilt would be 2 yards of their double width cloth. You might want to tell the pipe band that 2 yards is all you would need and see if they can let you know if they have extra. Chances are, they might.
We had a bunch of Carolina tartan cloth woven up for a pipe band here, and in order to guarantee that the band would get enough cloth for all their kilts, the mill had to actually produce a bit more cloth than the band ordered. So we ended up with some yardage on our hands (sorry guys, it's all been spoken for already!).
So it might be worth a shot -- in any case, couldn't hurt to ask!
Remember, too, that I can always have what you want custom woven for you.
Aye,
Matt

I know it can be custom woven, just that that is prohibitively expensive. I did send another e-mail asking who is making their kilts to see if I could get 2-2.5 yards cheaper than having it woven myself (or yourself as the case may be) or if they would not sell me yardage would they have enough to make a kilt for me? I haven't heard back yet.
