My first Tartan

I received my first tartan kilt from USA Kilts just before Christmas. I wore it Christmas eve to my parents, and they were the only ones who asked what the sporran was. My sister touched the kilt and said, "Is this your new, ummm,?" I said it was my first tartan kilt. Then she asked what a tartan is.

No one said anything at church, I think, because they are used to seeing me in a Utilikilt for a year now, but still I thought they would say more when I had the tartan and a sporran. Some people that only come a few times a year looked at it oddly, but didn't say anything. One friend of ours noted my sword kilt pin and grabbed the kilt and said, "I see you have on your whole Irish garb." I told him he was getting too frisky and his twenty something son, laughed.

Some comments about wearing this kilt compared to UK's. First it felt really light in weight, but is really comfortable. I was surprised that I wasn't cold, although we just went from car to building. It really is comfortable, because with the UK's I have to have the belt tight to hold up the kilts. Thanks Rocky for doing a great job!

This is my first time wearing a sporran too, and I managed to use that old belt I found and used a screw bolt and nut to hold the one end onto the sporran. I couldn't believe how heavy the sporran was with my wallet and cell phone. When these items, less sporran are put in different pockets, the weight isn't noticed. I did notice that later in the evening when we were back home and I just had an empty sporran, the tassels hit the sporran as I walked and made noise. The sporran made it feel as if I was losing my pants, as I am not used to wearing something that low.

I didn't have time to get my flashes done, so they are not seen in this picture. The picture didn't turn out very well, even though my son is the better of the picture takers. It was taken by our tree with all our gifts, mostly for our first grandson who is a little over 2 years old. I hope it looked better in person, as the kilt looks tucked in by my legs, but again it was after wearing it all evening.

Nicely colour co-ordinated, Dale, and welcome to the tartan world! The noise of the sporran's tassels can be irritating for a while, but you will get used to it (those who walk with you might not however!), and you will probably find that the rhythm they set helps to get you striding out with even greater confidence, if that's possible! Well done.
