Thanks Herman,
That's a big boost towards our goal.
And so weird that my great great grandfather and your great grandfather met in combat on opposite sides near Washington D.C.
Glad they didn't shoot each other or neither of us would be here wearing kilts!
And, for some reason that coincidence brings to mind my being in Washington D.C. as a civilian during the Veteran's riots when there were sandbagged machine gun emplacements on street corners, tanks roaming the streets, and tear gas in the air. So weird when it happened in our own nation's capital.
Sorry, don't mean to drift of track...just a memory.
Rocky, what's our count now??

I just re-read the thread and these are the definites (as they have posted):
Celticranger 1 + 4 (army buddies) = 5 Semi Trads
Ron - 1 ST
Tartantexan - 1 ST
BonnieT100 - 1 ST
KidCossak - 1 Casual
Celticranger - 1 Kilted Skirt (for his wife)
KCW - 1 casual (MAYBE... did you MEAN to vote?)
Brad - 1 casual MAYBE... he'll let me know later.
We'll call that 10 kilts for sure. At LEAST 5 more to go by Jan 15.
ALSO... please note that this count will not be complete until I have contacted everyone and gotten the billing info and a credit card # for at LEAST 75% of the kilt cost (you can deposit 75% down or full ammt down or anywhere in between). I am keeping the deposit at 75% to help cover the expense we're eating in ordering 130 Meters (much more than needed for the 15 kilts, but it's the minimum we can order).
If I try to contact everyone and 5 people (out of the 15) back out or can't be reached, I will not charge anyone's card until we reach the 15 kilt minimum and are ready to place the order.
CelticRanger... If possible, can your buddies pay you and you give me the lump deposit for all of you? If not, I'll need all of their contact info to get in touch with them... obviously, you should PM or email it to me, not post it here.
Questions... post here or call or email or PM me!

It's getting really close for me being in for a semi-trad as well. Still trying to figure out how to swing it, but it's looking good.

Don't know if it helps, but I have pics of my three USA Kilts semi-traditionals in my galleries; Macdonald, Ireland's National, and Thomson. There's also a video of Ham in a semi-trad on the USA Kilts website.
Not sure how I'd describe them, have the look of a hand sewn traditional wool kilt only made from PV and sewn by machine. For me the test is the pleatwork. You can see from the pics of the ones I have the pleatwork is perfect.

I sure wish that I could tell by the pics but strangely enough only about 1/4 of your pics come through and materialize and these are some of those that didn't make it.
The definition of 'semi-traditional' did not state how many yards were involved, whether eight or four or whatever. I have my reservations about kilts less than eight full yards and made of very light material.
Can anyone compare the PV thickness to a SWK standard without my having to send a SASE to get a swatch? Is it thicker, or thinner? I am already aware that it's a better material, I just have my concerns.
Chris.

I would say that in a comparison, the PV is "thinner" sort of. It truly is apples and oranges. It is thinner, but then it also a much denser weaved fabric than the acrylic used in the SWK standards. If you have reservations, a SASE only costs two stamps, less than a dollar even.

KiltedKnight, have a glance at this thread regarding weight differences http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=23117 it may be helpful.
Let's try and keep this thread clutter free (or minimal )as per Rocky's request so that he and you guys wanting these kilts can get an accurate count in a timely matter Thanks lads.

OK, it looks like the KY tartan is out, so I'm definitely in for a semi trad.
