The route I'd take depends on what you want to SEE in PA (what stops you want to make). Are you coming to the East side of the state (towards Philly) or are you looking to get to MD ASAP?
If you're looking to come out this way, ask Robert from RKilts how he comes down. He's been here a few times.

I'm usually in a rush when I head down so I take toll roads. One way is to cross at Niagra falls. From Toronto head west on the Gardner then head south on QEW427 to Past St. Catherines then Hwy 405 cross the border take 190, 290, 90, 476, 676. Or you could head east taking 401 past Kingston take 137 south to the bridge. head south on 81 then join the 476 etc.

We like diner style food better than fast food. We had just come from Hershey Park with my Son, his wife and their son. I was wiped out and needed a break. I am not sure how I made it the rest of the way home.

Thank you all for the input. We ended up doing the QEW / I-90, I-79 - 76 - 70 then 15 down to Leesburg. 558 miles took us abt. 9.5 hrs. We thought about the central NY / PA routes for sightseeing but decided we just wanted to get home and the other way was faster. The easterly routes to me are just too crowded around the holidays. WAY too many people on the routes between DC and Boston.
Thanks again all.

Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home. Happy New Year to you all.
