I'm so olde that single bar face masks were the new thing when I was waterboy/team manager for my high school football team. Much too scrawny then to play a position. We managed to win four games out of 36 played during my four years with the team.
One of the most common injuries was from getting cleated in the face...a set of football cleats can tear up a nose. Them new fangled face masks were welcome and a sign of coolness.
Well, at least now I understand them armband things the players are always fiddling with.
