Couldn't have said it better myself

Simply amazing. I really need to find myself some dye/stain so I can work with different colors... especially since I have such a hard time finding black at a price I can afford. I also need to learn such excellant embellishment skills.
Funny story... I saw your first Irish Harp sporran and wanted to find an Irish Harp pattern for myself. I ended up Photochopping a black/white Guinness logo.

Care to share the source of the turnlock closure? I've been wanting to buy some for a while. I have a few sporrans that need closures to be "finished."

I agree... the tri-lobe flap is quite an attention getter... assuming you can pull your attention away from that beautiful Irish Harp!
Speaking of pin-lock closures... anyone know a source for those? I'm about this close | | to buying a set of hood pins from Summit Racing and converting those to sporran closures some how. That'd be a great way to merge my love for auto racing with my love for kilts/kilt accessories.

Jim - tooling leather takes dye so very well, and every PX/NX/MCX I've ever been in sells black dye for boots... so not sure I understand your problem here. Further, I've seen a couple posters here who have used colored pens to great effect - cheap and simple solution.
I'm looking at Lee Valley's (woodworking site) small but powerful (and inexpensive!) rare earth magnets http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...=1,42363,42348 for my first sporran project.
In addition, if tooling leather is your passion there are a number of sources available for fantastic desings in this style - George Bain's Celtic Knotwork has to be acknowledged as one of the premier works in this field. Also check out http://www.gallowayglass.com/CELTIC.JPG for some great designs.

Y'know... I never thought of the shoe dyes. I'll have to see if the pathetic exchange at Portsmouth Shipyard has any. It's not exactly well stocked. Though I could probably find some at the Kittery Trading Post.
