I quit wearing flight jackets because of the elastic waist- My wife gently pointed out that they just do not give a flattering profile, especially from behind, they seem to add 10-20 pounds to the midsections of most people who wear them because of way the jacket bulges out above the waist. After seeing some pictures, I had to agree.

Yes they are comfortable, no argument there. I have owned several.

You can get flight/bomber jackets with a straight waist, and they look MUCH better with a kilt (or anything else) than those elastic-waist ones. I plan on getting one of these:

Guess its okay though with those of us with extra large midsections already....

There'd sure be a draft from below after my belly got done stretching out that straight waist jacket....

Looks sharp for them that can wear them though, for sure.

I am glad you said it, I was certainly thinking it. It does not matter what jacket I wear, it is going to look the same.

I have a bit of a gut myself, so it doesn't make much difference. I was sure glad I had the jacket last night--it was in the 40's and raining and I went out to dinner with my family.

I swear by my Cooper A-2 in goatskin - at $200 not cheap, but hard to beat the real thing. BTW, Cooper (who made the A-2 for the military when they were still issuing them) has closed their doors; jackets are still in stock at http://www.bestglide.com/cooperpage.htm - but they will sell out soon. Enjoy!

Here is my new Cooper straight-bottom/straight cuff bomber jacket, with sporran made from similar distressed leather. I love how it fits:

The only difference from the other bomber jackets is the elastic cuffs and waistband have been left out.

Harrison Ford wore a somewhat similar Jacket in the old movie Raiders of the Lost Ark, made from darker leather.

Smart looking bomber jacket there, and it matches the kilt and sporran very nicely.

    That whole outfit is great,
I really like the way the jacket goes with the kilt, and sporran.
