The Mountain "Kilt" is really a wrap-around skirt. It's a kilt only in name. As far as I know they don't make the men's version anymore, and they've changed the women's model from the original to a new style.
The men's model wrapped so it overlapped half an apron's width. It fastened with a buckle at the waist, and with a buckle on an elastic strap halfway down the apron, so it had play as you walked (it needs this, since it has no pleats). There's a patch pocket placed so it's on your leg sewn onto it.
I repeat, this isn't a kilt by any stretch of the imagination. It was just easier for Mountain Hardwear to market a "hiking kilt" to men than a "hiking skirt." I've seen several of these on others in person, and I wouldn't want to wear one myself.
Andrew.
