Should be straightforward unless you are arriving at Prestwick late at night. Take a Carlisle or Newcastle train direct from Prestwick Airport to Dumfries. Or take a Kilmarnock or Glasgow via Kilmarnock train to Kilmarnock and change trains at Kilmarnock.

Yes, a kilt shop indeed
I was there in September, and they also had a fair selection of brand new off-the-rack kilts. That is where I got my 16 oz Irish National from House of Edgar at 50% off - and fits like made-to-measure
