I worked in a theatre hemp house in Victoria, It is so called because the fly system uses hemp rope instead of cable. Really dusty though.

At least he didn't send a silk worm. That little bugger would have to work day and night for a decade to get enough silk for a Jacobite shirt!

I once heard a story from an old stage hand about the time they thought that they would "upgrade" a fly system and replace all of that old nasty hemp rope with modern synthetic rope...it was a disaster because the synthetic kept stretching and eventually there was so much slack in the sytem that all of the scenery and the counterweights were on the floor. Sometimes newer is not better.

Hemp has to be conditioned, or else it gets dusty.
Try giving any hemp product a good rub down with tea tree oil or avocado oil. Restores the supple nature and keeps it from drying out. This goes for the fabric to. You should never wash hemp with strong detergents or things that strip oils.

Phew! That's alright then, Gray. I was thinking that Tassie is a long way off for me to be a prison visitor.
