New to the forum - quick question
Just curious - how many people on this forum who own kilts wear a kilt every day? I own four Utilikilts as well as a traditional that I hand-sewed myself and I wear the UKs every day and have done so for over a year and a half. Before that I usually wore my traditional on special occasions and sometimes I just wore it. Since going kilted I've gotten to the point that I feel constrained wearing pants. At work (at a zoo) I have to wear a uniform consisting of shorts/pants and a shirt. I experiece frequent episodes of non-kilted discomfort throughout the day and often find myself wishing I could wear a kilt. Alas, that'll never be.

Welcome to the "X" from a kilt konvert in Phoenix!
You'll find that there's plenty of members who wear kilts daily (such as myself) & also plenty who aren't allowed to wear their kilts daily because of their employer or the type of job they do & still others who enjoy wearing kilts, but not daily - all are welcome here!
I've been kilted for 3½ years. I have 5 Utilikilts + 4 trad kilts. I wear the UKs to work most of the time because our office attire is casual. I agree with you - once you know the freedom & comfort of a kilt it's mighty unpleasant wearing pants again!

What do you do at the zoo?
Another thread had a member who asked his boss about wearing a kilt whilst working for the state of PA. If a conservative state like that will allow kilted employees, perhaps asking "the boss" at the zoo may work too! Depending on you duties, I would imagine that if you had a UK in a colour that matched yer uniform, perhaps it would be worth asking.....

Been kilted full time for over 17 months now, including at work. But I work at a slightly different type of "zoo" - a "human zoo" a mental health agency.
I'd think that a workman's would allow you to have your "critter tools" easily at hand and give you more agility when needed.

Wear one to work anyway. Make sure it is a matching colour to your work uniform.
I wear one every day. I no longer own pants.

I work in the Small Mammal and Reptile House at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, Illinois. Specifically I'm more a "reptile" guy though. I mostly work with reptiles and a handful of amphibians but I also do some regular work with other critters like Patagonian Cavies, Asian Small-clawed Otters, and I'm also a cross trained keeper for the McCormick Bird House as well. My two animal loves are herps (herpetology=the study of reptiles and amphibians, hence "herps") and birds. I also have an embarrassingly large collection of snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, newts in my tiny apartment.
Here's a pic of me holding a Black-throated Monitor Lizard at another zoo of sorts where I put in some part-time work occasionally as an exhibit consultant.

I construct all of my own caging for my animals that I keep at home and since I got my two Workman's kilts I've been wondering how I ever got by without them. I can have my cordless drill in the hammer loop and a box of trim screws in one pocket and a utility knife in another. I used to work construction YEARS ago and now I don't know if I'd ever wear a toolbelt again. However, as to wearing one to work in... well - let's just say I get a lot of animal waste on me throughout the week and I'd hate to have to wash a kilt so much. You should see how much of a beating the shirts and shorts we wear take. Not to mention the caustic disinfectants such as bleach solutions and other more nefarious chemicals like 1-Stroke and Alkyli germicide - ugh! UKs are too expensive to be put through that kind of punishment. Still, the general curator of the zoo has seen me in my various UKs at after hours zoo parties and such and we've jokingly talked about getting kilts for people to wear but alas they're WAY to buttoned-down for that. I'll have to open my own facility before I could ever get away with wearing my kilt to work. *Sigh* I slave away during the day in my bifurcated tortuous garment longing for the kilted freedom at the end of day.
