Another thread had a member who asked his boss about wearing a kilt whilst working for the state of PA. If a conservative state like that will allow kilted employees, perhaps asking "the boss" at the zoo may work too! Depending on you duties, I would imagine that if you had a UK in a colour that matched yer uniform, perhaps it would be worth asking.....
I work in the Small Mammal and Reptile House at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, Illinois. Specifically I'm more a "reptile" guy though. I mostly work with reptiles and a handful of amphibians but I also do some regular work with other critters like Patagonian Cavies, Asian Small-clawed Otters, and I'm also a cross trained keeper for the McCormick Bird House as well. My two animal loves are herps (herpetology=the study of reptiles and amphibians, hence "herps") and birds. I also have an embarrassingly large collection of snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, newts in my tiny apartment.

Here's a pic of me holding a Black-throated Monitor Lizard at another zoo of sorts where I put in some part-time work occasionally as an exhibit consultant.
