Robbie Burns Supper (PA/NJ Border)

Ah, Rakes, ya blew it. I was one of the two or three in the large crowd (other than the paid entertainers) that actually wore a kilt. most the the crowd was local gentry, in everything from flannel shirts to football jerseys (some coats and ties). It really wasn't formal (as it SHOULD be) Its' becoming rather tiresome to show up at these Scottish events and find yourself and yer kilt sticking out like a sore thumb.

The event itself was first rate. A Piper piped the haggis in, a kilted gentleman gave a superb Address to the Haggis, stabbed it with a Dirk, and the whole menu was authentic scottish fare, (haggis, neeps, tatties, meatpies, fish, and so on) plus great live music, pretty good brewpub beer, great service. Toasts, addresses to the lads and lassies, it was the complete Burns program (with a handout menu explaining it all).

If it had been less crowded and more formal, it would have been perfect. It's only about an hour from Philly, way, way out in the countryside, right by the Delaware River.

Mebbe next year we can get a proper XMarks crowd up there and get a better show of Kilts.

I counted a lot more than three guests in kilts. The thing is, you really couldn't tell if someone was kilted or not unless they were

a) Sitting at the bar

or

b) got up to use the restroom.

I wore my Prince Charlie with my Air Force kilt.

I didn't take any photos as it was pretty much a sit down dinner and I didn't have a good angle to shoot photos of the musicians & speakers.

If anything, there was too much food. By the time we got to the tipsy laird (sherry trifle), I was stuffed. The extra helping of haggis didn't help either.

I'm definately going again next year, but I'm making sure I get there extra early.
