Ladies of X Marks Sound Off!

I happen to think that one of the great things about our forum is the great diversity amongst our members. As of late more than a few ladies have joined X Marks. This forum is all the richer for it. I thought it would be nice to have a thread where the ladies of X Marks the Scot could all introduce themselves to each other, be they newbie or Kilted Legend.

So I turn this over to the Ladies. I ask that if the make up of your chromosomes are XY to reserve your thoughts for other threads.

Perhaps I shall get my own Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess to join!

Geez...I'll go first, I guess;)
I'm new here, as you all have probably realized. I am a mutt, heritage-wise, being (in no particular order...I have it memorized a certain way, lol) Irish, English, French, Scottish, German, Scandinavian (unknown which country-long story), and a touch of Rom. I'm 30 years old, living in the Southern Californian Desert in a city named Hesperia roughly 1.5 hours from Los Angeles going south and west, and 3 hours from Las Vegas going north and east. I am married and have a 2 year old daughter named Elizabeth. I work as a pharmacy technician as my main job, as a notary public when needed, and am a registered minister (who, after not doing anything as a minister for years, will be preforming her first marriage in May for a friend of mine). I'm a history geek, and I have a vast amount of useless knowledge floating around my head, lol...things that I pick up here and there. For fun, I go to renaissance faires (and have worked them), learning to belly dance, and giving serious consideration to learning archery if I can find a decent teacher (and find the time).
I am a decent seamstress when I get the urge to sew as long as it's on one of my machines...I can hand sew, but it's not pretty. I can't hold the needle for long before my hand goes numb, and I have what is called an essential tremor (meaning there is no disease, such as parkinson's) in my right hand sometimes...it's just easier to machine sew as much as possible. My first kilt was made for my little brother for a halloween costume when he was in the 3rd grade. It was his idea, and won him 1st place in the school's costume contest. It came out pretty good considering I had no idea what I was doing. My husband is still waiting for his kilt since I promised to make one last year. The fabric is sitting in the fabric stash waiting for a day that Lizzy will be out of the house for a while...I have to lay all fabric on the floor to cut and manipulate, and she thinks that it's a dance floor, oy vey! Needless to say, you can not pleat anything with 2 yr old spinning on it.
Oh, damn, it's late, and I have to be up in 5.5 hours so I'll say my farewells.

Hey everbody,

Uh...not sure where to begin exactly...Sorcha's long post is a hard act to follow.
My name's Renee and I'm from the Canadian east coast. I came to the kilt through a tattoo and peircing website called BME, I had noticed pics of a fellow named "Eric Sprague - the Lizard Man" wearing a cool Utilikilt and thus my adventure with unbifurcated garments began.
Even getting into kilts was a big step for me, but once I had one wrapped around my waist and felt the swish of the pleats as i walked I vowed to find out all I could.
hrmmm...what else...I work in a local Cd and Dvd store and for fun I usually spend my time listeing to music or watching movies...go figure?
Three times a week I also participate in a martial arts class.

Not sure what else you lot would like to know, but feel free to ask questions.
Oh, and welcome to ALL the newbis, not just the female ones.

Lol...sorry, I was rambling. My usual posts are under 5 lines, so that was a monster.

I am a serious foodie and lover of good strong drink. I am sickeningly artistic and desperate for a new creative outlet. I am a practicing henna artist, belly dancer, recreational cook, and I am contemplating beginning a tattoo apprenticeship. I'm married, still newly wed as a matter of fact. I have no children yet, but maybe I'll have some in the very distand future.

You sound interesting, lol...and a bit like myself. Whiskey, vodka, gin or tequila are my only alcohol...I can't stand beer. I wish I was artistic like my brother, who can draw very well (and if he gets his act together might someday get a tattoo apprenticeship), but my henna has to be done buy others, which really sucks if no one is available when I need/want it done. How long have you been dancing, and what style?

I suppose I'd better sound-off myself, since apparently Panache started this forum just to get me to join and put in my 2 cents. He has no idea what he is getting himself into! I'll try to be good. Let's see...I'm clan McCleod (via Nichol, which makes me McCleod of Lewis, i.e. Loud McCleod) and own a McCleod mini. Other than that and a few sashes made from left over material from Panache's kilts, I'm not much of a wearer of tartan, due to being allergic to wool I'm a veterinarian who is feeling rather overworked as of late, and we have two lovely children-both also enjoy the kilt. I used to be quite the Renaissance Fairey, but not so much in the past decade. I love to sew and make costumes, but again, not so much in the last 6-7 years, because, as Sorcha mentioned, sewing with a 2-year-old dancing on the fabric is quite challenging. I could continue to talk about myself for hours, but I'll leave it at this, knowing that there are plenty of others on this site who will be happy to talk about me for me...right?...right?

I've been bellydancing (modern and some tribal) since I was 13. I posted a few pics of some of my recent henna work, but it looks pretty poor. The henna I used was bad quality, I was in a pinch. It didn't turn out as good as my usual stuff. I've done henna at a few parties. Henna parties are all the rage now and fetch a pretty price. I've done one children's party, but I'll never do that again. I think I hennaed about 4 children and spent the rest of the time fixing theirs. I also did henna at a local community college as a fund raiser for the La Feaux art club. That was so much fun. I've actually done good henna work, so please don't judge me by the pictures I posted. Those were the only Celtic pics I had.

I'm interested in the tribal look and feel, but I haven't settled on a style quite yet since I am still learning.
You do have a lot of talent...if those are your poor looking ones, I'd love to see your good ones I couldn't do any of it, so I bow to your talent.
Henna and children...ummm, no, no no thank you very much. lol. I almost can feel to anxiety attack that would bring on.

I'm Kat, been pretty active on the forum recently and so glad I found it.

I'm a widow with two children. My daughter is 10 and my son 11. After their father passed away, I turned my love for history into seeking out more information on his family. I discovered information on his clan (Gordon) and started taking the kids to highland festivals. Before going to our first highland games, my son was dead set against wearing a kilt. After an hour there he was asking me to buy him one. He took an active interest in clan Gordon and his family history. It, as I hoped, made him feel closer to his father.

So now he is hooked. I enjoy it just as much as my little man. We are working on tanning a muskrat hide so he can have a "fluffy" full mask sporran. His first kilt is a Sport Kilt but I plan on increasing his selection soon.

I also have plans for outfitting my daughter with a new dress for the games. It would be styled after some medieval garb I know she is fond of, with a tartan bodice and full skirt in a matching solid color and contrasting chemise.

My mom just joined the forum. She is a nut but ya gotta love her. She has come to both of the Greenville Kilt Nights with me and has enjoyed herself a great deal. I'm sure she will be adding to the post at some point. Her clan is Davidson and while I don't place emphasis on that as much it is an important part of my heritage.

My name is Kristen. I am Dirk Skene's niece. I'm new as well, as if you couldn't figger that one out yourselves. I live in the Memphis area. I am currently awaiting my first mini-kilt. My husband has his first on the way too. I can't wait to get it, I'm sure they'll be the first of many. I plan on attending the Highland Games hosted in Arkansas. My Uncle invited my husband and I to go with him. He said something about axe throwing and drinking... in the same sentance. I've got to see this, at a very safe distance of course.
