    I think some of the regiments used to wear flashes like that for ceremonial use. Cuillin Craft advertises some very simuilar as Atholl Highlanders, gordon Highlanders, etc. flashes at http://www.cuillinn.com/kilts.html .

    It's kind of like the rosettes the Black Watch used to use on their uniforms, I think to distinguish NCOs and officers from lower ranks. A bit of overkill for any civilian I would think.

    I really don't think those garters are something I would wear. The guy standing in the photo next to the plane is wearing them. They look like something a Pipe Major or a Drum Major might wear.

    Thanks for the link. I have never seen anything like that worn before but then again I don't have any experiences with Scottish regimental heritage.

    I definitely agree that it's something that is not for ordinary civilian use.
