I like 3 & 4. Nice work, and thanks for the reference to Feds, although for some reason I associated us more with grey than blue. (Except the Border Patrol, which callled itself the "Mean Green Machine"

    Best regards,

    Jake

It's all in the interpretation. I think you're right; gray might be best to signify Staties AND Feds --"the Gray Flannel-Suited G-Man" and all)

The Border Patrol (Of which I was an agent for 5 years) already has its own tartan. They can claim the green in mine if they wish...

A note to think about when designing your Tartan.

About the average Tartan Sett is somewhere around 6-8 inches.

This means that in 13 oz fabric, which has approx. 48 yarns per inch, your design needs to contain 312 yarns in one full repeat to yield a repeat of 6.5 inches.

16 oz. fabric has approx. 36 yarns per inch so a full repeat of 234 yarns will yield
    a repeat of 6.5 inches.

Please remember that the yarns per inch figures I give here are examples only and will vary between mills. I took my figures from samples of Locharran Tartan that I have here in the shop.

The green could represent Federal Law Enforcement & Protection Rangers of the US National Park Service, the US National Forest Service, BLM, Fish & Wildlife, etc.

    Colors: (after good input)

Blue: City/Local (Uniform Divisions, Patrol, etc), US Customs, Coast Guard, USSS Uniform Division

Green: Sheriff's Deputies, Green Uniform Feds (USFWS, USBP, NPS, etc)

Gray: State Troopers, Plainclothes officers ("Grey Flannel Suit" Feds-Criminal Investigators, FBI, Deputy US Marshals, USSS and other Special Agents, etc.,)
    Police Plainclothes Detective Divisions,
Undercovers (Covert and Semi-)-"The Gray Men"- DEA, Air Marshals, Vice/Narcotics/Arson/EOD

Black and Dark Red: To remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice performing their duty. Mourning Bands and Blood.

I will keep working on this as my time permits.

Well guys, I received a call back from Sgt Eric Rose of the Estes park Police Dept. He told me his kilt of choice is the Black Watch Tartan and that other members of the Police dept wear a tartan specially commissioned for the town of Estes Park. He Invited me to look him up next time I was in town for the Highland festival. Eric also said he would check out the Xmarks Website.
