Here we go then, chaps. A small selection of Hampix from the amazing event that was the Ferintosh Burns Weekend. I apologise if you feel you have seen any of these images before - maybe you have, but from a slightly different angle! The huge array of excellent photos already posted by my good friends have said it all - I hope those from my camera will convey yet another aspect of this never-to-be-forgotten event. (By the way, the following 18 photos have been selected from the 226 my camera registered!)

These relaxed kilties enjoy a dram at The Ferintosh prior to setting out on the Friday evening pub-crawl. L to R: Robertson (our kindly host), Sten Rune, Dee, Patrick, David and Robin.

Robin appears to be anticipating moments of joy as he approaches the second pub on our crawl, The Hole i' the Wa' Inn.

A bar full of mischief at The New Bazaar Inn, our third pub.

A brief moment of 'Dread' as we were thrown out.... sorry, LEFT... The New Bazaar.
To be continued.....

Now, where was I? Oh, yes ............

Sten Rune makes sure the message is received, "For the last time, it is NOT a skirt!"

There is a story attached to this photo! At one point, whilst we were in The Globe Inn (Burns' favourite howff) some of our group went off in search of Burns' bedroom upstairs. A few minutes later, I went to follow them and headed up the nearest staircase. On hearing voices in a room to my left on the landing, I opened the door ...... and found myself in a room full of strangers. The walls of the room, which was furnished like a Board Room, were panelled and there were mementos of Burns everywhere. The fellow seated at the top of the long table invited me in and asked if he could be of any help. When I explained that I was looking for the rest of my kilted pals who had gone up to the bedroom, I was informed that this room was much more interesting. To cut the story short, I had burst in upon a meeting of the executive committee of the 'Burns Howff Club, and the room is exclusively the Club's (as you will see from the wording on the wall panels in the photo). The gentleman who welcomed me, and who is beside me in the photo, is Mr. D.Baird, the present Treasurer and past President of the Burns Howff Club. Having seen my camera he insisted that a photo be taken and that I should sit in the original Burns chair (the one in the snug downstairs is a copy apparently!). A photo of me doing that was taken but, alas, the flash did not work and it is a dark blur! Since I had interrupted the meeting I hurredly made my excuses, offered my thanks and left - and never did find the bedroom! The Burns Howff Club is apparently the Burns appreciation society to end all Burns appreciation societies (See www.burnshowffclub.org/history.htm )
The next day, after the obligatory trip to Anderson's, the Kilt Shop, Derek (dwg69) and I took a trip out to Caerlaverock Castle, unaware that it was on Sunday's schedule! Many photos have been posted of that imposing place, but here are two that you'll not have seen:

A mirror-image 'Hamish' in one of the fireplaces (!), and

"Me and my shaddow"!!

Don't give up yet! This is the final batch of Hampix.....

This is my favourite photo of our wonderful host and hostess - The Laird and Lady of Ferintosh. Thank you, Robertson and Emma for such a brilliant weekend.

On Monday morning there was just time for a little shopping and further exploration of Dumfries town. Dee took this photo before he rushed off to Glasgow, en-route for the USA. Derek and I are beside the River Nith with Devorgilla's 13th Century footbridge behind us.

In the afternoon, Robertson and Emma gave up their precious (and much-needed) rest time to take Derek and me out into the countryside, and to visit Emma's parents. Here Derek, Robertson an' ai are at Southerness Lighthouse, at the point where the River Nith flows into the Solway Firth. The free-standing building is the oldest and one of the few remaining square lighthouses in Scotland, if not the United Kingdom.

I took this dramatic skyscape, looking southwards out into the Solway Firth, from Southerness.
And finally:

Tuesday morning and time for The Laird of Ferintosh to bid farewell to The Laird of Lochaber at the conclusion of what was undoubtedly an utterly amazing, and truly enjoyable, weekend. Thanks to our hosts and our fellow guests for making it so.

Wonderful pictures Hamish. Though I feel a bit sad at seeing the last of the Dumfries Weekend pictures.
Oh, well...there's always next year!

Somehow I think they have a website that Derek has not shown us all yet. Hmmmmm. Or perhaps I'm wrong.

Here is a link to Elaine's website**, through which the CD can be ordered:
http://www.morganmusic.fsbusiness.co.uk/
or, I guess, a PM to Derek will start a ball rolling.
I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
(**The site has details of Elaine's musical career, an interview with her - and even a photo in the gallery of the cardboard cut-out!!!)
