Thanks Rocky & Cacunn for the tip. I've seen those before and thought they were a bit goofy, well not really, just not quite as snazzy as the typical chain or strap but something has got to give and until I can lose the belly maybe this will do now that I think about it. Anything to be able to stop the constantly fiddling with my sporran chain all day to keep it where it should be.

Charles, an excellent thread! I have made mention of my size on numerous past threads and it does not surprise me how many "king size" kilties we have here. Kilts are comfortable for all the above reasons. I also like to wear the garment because it's different. Guys our size always stand out in a crowd so why not look good while doing so?

Well said, but the fact is, I am fat. Too fat. And a kilt really makes me look slimmer, taller, abler, smarter, sexier, and generally better all round. A kilt is a helluva man's outfit. Tonight, there were several times while we were out that ladies and men would smile and comment on my kilt. (Some of the ladies were a bit flirtatious I think. Not the men.)
I was about 247 on 6' - 3" around Christmas, and the photos I saw made me realize that I was not being a good steward of the body I had and the heart I got from someone else. So I am now at about 230 and headed back toward 210 or so.
Now my problem is that the fat boy clothes own't fit anymore, especially the Gordon kilt I got from WPG! On the better side, my best kilt will fit better soon. REckon I should buy one of those Gordons in a smaller size while they are still on sale for $225? (Is that a gimme, or what/?)

whether you get them from us or someone else, these are PERFECT for solving that problem.. . .I'm not trying to make a sale (or sound like a salesman), just trying to help big guys with the "front apron bunching" problem. Our AVERAGE customer is about a 44" waist (about 250 at 6') and we see this problem ALL the time.
I don't care whether Rocky is makes a sale or not. But he's right. They make all the difference, so listen to him. Hell, buy the things from him tonight because you'll love them, and he's a nice guy. I'd buy a pair myself if I didn't already own some. There's nothing grosser than that big pouch caused by the sporran chain on a portly gentleman like myself.
Thanks for all you do here, Rock.

I worked very hard to get down to 200 pounds, and started getting a bit upset when I started gaining weight and mass.
And then I noticed, a lot of the new mass didn't jiggle. At all. I couldn't figure out what was going on at first... And I am still dubious about the weight. I am sitting at about 250 right now, which is a lot of strain on my poor knees. I couldn't figure out why the mass and weight was coming back. I don't work out. I don't lift weights. I don't go to a gym.
I do however stretch, and do these isometric stretching thingies where I pull against my own body to keep limber and fight off RA. That is really the only thing I do. And it must be doing something for me to bulk up the way I have. I've gained 50 pounds... Which to be honest, I'd rather not have because my knees hurt more than ever now. I don't know how to lose this weight. I keep bulking up, which is hurting me. I bet I am closer to 260 now, which is incredibly bad for somebody 5 and a half feet tall with shoes on.
I guess I sort of lift weights... I do pick up my giant cast iron wok off of the stove and toss veggies in it for minutes at a time and I like to take my dog and play oopsie daisy and throw her high up in to the air and catch her. (She probably weighs more than 50 pounds)

I'm 6' 2.5" and weigh in around 360 lbs. and I must say, that the most comfortable garment for me to wear is a kilt. For some reason I have way less problems with the plumbers crack thing when I wear a kilt, even though I wear them at the same place. That tells me the garment just fits better.

[QUOTE=Dreadbelly;324629]I'm not fat! I'm big boned!
And like me there's probably some big meat on those bones! It may be hard to believe but I once weighed 8 pounds!

Big Boned
Well, yes another big boned guy here, and dont laugh Ive got the x-rays to prove it . Everything everyone else has said is perty much true. I'm 6' 1" and 340 lbs. Pants dont do a good job of fitting me to well, the biggest problem is the rise not being tall enough, and with this new hip huggin style of pants for men its almost impossible to find a pair that'll fit right.
I have to wear pants sometimes but usually I prefer my custom made kilt.

I am a Big Guy and a Kilt maker!
"With threads like this, and more comments from men like yourselves, all kiltmakers will start to understand the problems unique to "Men of substance"."
This is why I started making my own kilts! There is a reason why my handle is Sumo Kilt!
If your clothing, in this case a kilt, is properly made, you will look great no matter your size.
In fact I made one for a fellow "Wee Jamus" Who was 6ft 5in and 430 lbs!
He looked great and was so proud that someone understood.
All the best gang!
Yours in pleats
