So call me a wimp! I am with Beloit Piper. When the air is -20F and the wind is out of the NW at 25mph, I HIDE. If forced to go out it is in LOTS of layers.

Go out and buy those SUV's please!

Same here. Well below zero with howling winds. Wearing a kilt in this weather would be just plain silly.

Pants and long johns are the order of the day.

That's strange... Temps above 68 degrees is when I start to melt in to a wee puddle of grease.

I'd be a happy man if it stayed 50 to 60 year round.

I've mentioned it before, I'll mention it again...
I've been quite comfortable in temps down to -25F (-30ishC) while wearing my heavy Irish National kilt, kilt hose, a heavy sweater, and a leather bomber jacket. It's getting cold here again starting tomorrow, and I won't let that stop me from being kilted!

Sure, when it's cold outside I don't really want to go out. At all. But when I do go out, I'm always wearing a kilt.

Tonight it was 15F, with some sort of huge wind chill. I still ventured out to the local pub in my Workman's Utilikilt, low wool socks, and a few layers on top. My ears got cold because of the wind, but I didn't have too many other problems.

Alright, I'm going to lay it down. I have hitchhiked in great kilt (not wool, mind you, medium weight pv!), leather jacket, and combat boots with tube socks in a blizzard. No, I don't remember the temperature, it was a few years ago, but it was a wet snow, and I'll tell you right now it was bloody cold. It took me no less than 4 hours to get a ride, and by the time I got home I had to shave my beard off because it had broken off fairly close to my face in three places. The warmest part of me in the whole shooting match was waist to knees. Moral of the story- don't miss your ride when it's cold and snowy and you live 12 miles out of town.

I just looked, it is 4 deg F (about -15 C) here this morning. On top of that, all of the smoke detectors in the house went off this morning around 1 AM. The noise would wake the dead, and the dogs were going crazy, howling and such. I had to get up and check everywhere in and around the house for fire or smoke, and it was very cold. Then I figured out what was wrong. This was the first really cold night we've had, so the heat pump couldn't keep up and the heating strips had kicked in. Of course, over the course of about 9 months, they had accumulated a covering of dust which was burning off and setting off the smoke detectors. I checked iy out by turning off the heat and resetting the detectors. They went off twice more, but everything was quiet again by about 2:30 AM. All of this in single digit temperatures. I didn't go out to check under the house in a kilt. I didn't feel that either of my usual "around the house kilts" (Sportkilt or a Stillwater economy) would be warm enough, and I didn't want to get my 9 yard heavyweight traditional out of the closet. During all of this, I was thinking how lucky we were that the design of our house allows an easy escape route from every bedroom. two actually have exit doors and the other two have windows that open onto a handicap access ramp.

It's still single digits to teens up here right now but it's the wind that will stop me from wearing a kilt today. No matter how much heat rises, when there is a 20-30 mph wind coming across you it is just darn cold.

I'm usually well insulted to the cold and went to college near the NY/Canadian border where we would reguarly get below zero but it's the wind that gets up under the kilt. Sorry, but it's just not a kilt day here. Half of the light snow we got this week is now on the neighbor's lawn thanks to the wind. Maybe I just won't go out anywhere.
