Need something to wear with your green tights eh?
I got to wear it today out and aboot. For a while. I spent most of the day hooking on the couch. (Crocheting... Not whatever it was you were thinking) Wore it down to the grocery store. High wind... Really high wind gusts. Kilt was to stiff to lift. Kilt that doesn't lift doesn't lose heat. Which means... Warmth!
Human interaction was interesting. People commented mostly "Hey, that's not tartan!" One person said that it was the most suitable thing they could think of for a dwarf to wear... Black kilt, shiny metal buckles and hardware. I think I almost blushed I was so flattered. Another person said I need to hang a sword off of it. The best comment of all today was in the store, from one of the clerks. "Does the Grim Reaper know you raided his closet?" That one made me chuckle.
Something about it is different than a tartan kilt. People are used to seeing me kilted. Well, those that know me. They say stuff now only occasionally, if at all. It seems to have become 'normal' to them. With the black hole effect of Robert's most excellent hemp kilt, even people who barely notice me any more are totally freaked out and are back to saying something. Getting called Darth Douglas today got my attention... One older woman said it looks menacing on me. The black gets a lot of attention... I really don't know how to explain it, but it defies what a lot of people think a kilt is... Especially around here were so many people don't even know what a kilt is. This kilt dares you to stop and stare at it... Even observers desensitised to seeing me in a kilt were completely floored by it. It has a strange effect on people, more so than the tartan kilts I wear. Even my wife says so, but she can't say what or why it is.
A neighbor said she felt goosebumps on her skin and the hair on the back of her neck stood up when she watched me walking down the hall. Something about how the kilt swished back and forth when I walked and how black it was.
My new kilt may perhaps be the only think blacker than my dog.
