Ron,
I think your purchase of the USMC tartan is an excellent choice, and I also think that it reaches further in you than just feeling like it's time to buy another kilt. I feel this tartan can be worn by anyone who likes it and/or wishes to show support for our troops.
I've just purchased this tartan today in the Stillwater economy model. I've have several SWK wool heavyweights and standards, but decided to try an economy model for lighter weight summer wear.
I was not in the Marines per say, but was a Navy medic stationed at the Naval Hospital on the 2nd Marine Air Wing Base in Cherry Point, NC during the Vietnam era. The medics in the field with the Marines are actually Navy - they wear Marine Corps uniforms, but with Navy stripes. So to make a long story short, I will proudly wear the USMC to honor these brave men and women of the USMC, as will as the Navy medics who bravely serve with them in the field.

Thanks Darrell,
As far as I'm concerned you Navy Medics be Marines too. No doubt about it.
Trying to patiently wait for mine to be sewn up. Haven't heard the material's here yet...so just patience....

How 'bout that. I was aboard Cherry Point in the early 90's. I want to make it back over in the near future. Maybe do a trip up the coast and hit Parris Island while I'm at it for old times sake.

Whoopee! I'm about to wear out my computer going to the site several times a day to see if he has them yet!

Whew, Thanks Jim!
I thought I was the only one. I have been anxiously awaiting the heavyweights to replace my black-stewart standard. (to help ease the wait on my two custom made to orders on the way)
BTW, does that mean I am addicted? Can't be.

That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Thank you to Todd for spreading the word about the Coast Guard Tartan and the Coast Guard pipe band! I wish there was a better way to get the word out but news of its existence is starting to spread.
I created the Coast Guard tartan back in 1997. It has been a long haul but thankfully, many good Coasties believed in the idea as well and with their assistance, they helped me see my dream come true.

Oh, just a P.S.....for those who are interested in military tartans, LL Bean has put out the "Americana Tartan" collection of men's shirts for the past two winter seasons. The Leatherneck tends to sell out but there maybe tartan shirts available for the other services. You may have to call them; they tend to come out just before Christmas. I had the opportunity to be in Freeport, ME near the holidays and it was quite the thing to see all these military tartans in the form of shirts! It sure made me smile! I did ask the salesperson how they did and he said folks really enjoy them. We have them and it's neat when someone sees us wear them and yells "Semper Paratus"!

Welcome aboard to a distinguished new member! Huzzah! Even though I'm a Marine at heart, I've always liked the Coast Guard motto as well. Welcome aboard.
