I have used that book to make two kilts, and I am very satisfied with the results. If you take your time, and do things carefully, you will be well rewarded for your efforts.
Cheers,
Rick

Yeah, thats why I said earlier I have seen her shed light on issues time and again, I was mainly concerned with the usability by a novice and it seems that a novice can indeed use the book.

and as great as this book is supposed to be in it's current incarnation.....apparently the author is thinking about doing some updates to it. That means it will only get better!

I'm blushing about the nice things all of you guys have said. Thanks!
With my present work load, it looks like it will probably be early to mid summer before I get the 2nd edition out. Things like getting a daughter married in June, stuff like that, are higher up on the to-do list!
There won't be a lot of revisions to the main part of the book in terms of the kiltmaking instructions. But there will be more photos plus a new chapter (co-authored with our very own Matt Newsome) on making box pleated kilts.
If it works out in terms of production cost and the amount of $$ I have to pay for printing, what I would like to do is print extras of just the box pleat chapter so that someone who already owns the first edition and wants to make a box-pleated kilt won't have to buy an entirely new book just to get the box pleat instructions. The chapter won't stand alone, though, because, with the exception of pleating and layout and a couple minor options, a trad box pleat kilt is made the same way as a trad knife pleated kilt. So, it doesn't make sense to repeat instructions twice in the book. So, the new chapter will say "do X, Y, and Z", and then do the steps in the trad kilt instructions on D though F", etc. etc.
Cheers!
Barb
