Surely if the posts are read on a frequent basis it's not hard to pick them up given that the number of posts appears against a member when they contribute?
McClef,
I try and read almost all the new posts on X Marks except some of the very technical ones that deal with playing bagpipes and kilt making (which make me feel like I'm trying to follow stereo instructions where every other word is in Russian). Now I can barely remember my own phone number, let alone if McMurdo was a Kilted Ninja yesterday and is a Kilted Pastry Chef today. The reports we generate comb through all 1,836 members both active and inactive to show those who are about 10 or so posts below and above a certain rank.
So imagine that after "Kilted Pastry Chef" comes the title Kilted Abstract Painter (100,000 posts).
I run a report and get everybody out of 1,836 members that are between 99,990 posts and 100,010 posts. Yesterday McMurdo had 99,952 posts.
But today he got up at 6:00 AM and had three pots of coffee and started into a lengthy debate with cajunscot about trews. He posts an amazing 78 times before he had to head out the door 45 minutes later. His post count is now 100,030. At 8:00 AM in California I run the report of who has been promoted to Kilted Abstract Painter. McMurdo doesn't fall within the range so I don't realize he has promoted up. Unless someone gives us a heads up McMurdo's next chance of getting a "Well Done" will be when his post count gets closer to the next rank, in this case Kilted Key Grip.
I hope this helped explain how it works.
By the by, McClef no worries. Everybody wants a little recognition now and then.
Cheers
