Our three "kids"

First is Sophie, the intrepid adventure dog. She was a rescue from our local Humane Society. She gets so serious about her adventures, she once lept off a 30 foot high rock face while chasing a squirrel and landed right in front of my wife on the trail below. Needless to say it scared the bejezzus out of us and her - she wasn't hurt.



Next is Oscar. He was a drop off at the college where I work and had gotten stuck in a garbage can. It made it easy to catch him and provided an opportunity for a name.



Last is Jada. My youngest daughter got a cat when she first moved out, but after 3 or 4 sugsequent moves, she couldn't keep the cat so Mom and Dad came to the rescue. She's as sassy as the picture implies.

He answers to Tengu and we think he's mostly Maine Coon, although there might be some Newfoundland in there, too.

When we go camping she starts the night sleeping at the feet of my sleeping bag and by morning she's managed to sneak into the bag with me. A guy once asked, "Hey...is that a good hunting dog?" The answer, "No...but she's a good sleeping dog."

An earlier posting of this pic resulted in numerous forum members questioning whether this was a real dog, or trick photography, or an unnamed member's hair piece.



I would like to take this opportunity to post some additional pics which hopefully willl remove any doubt as to whether this is a real dog. As preparation for the Westminister Dog Show, the grooming process begins. In this pic, the cords (hair) are tangled and must be individually seperated.



The process continues; if you look closely, you can see a nose and one eye.

As the grooming process continues; you can now see 2 eyes, nose and mouth



With the cords all seperated and trimmed to give a square look to the dog, the cords are braided to prevent tangling and keep them clean.




The groomer braids both sides of the dog.

The process nears completion, not really that much dog under that heavy coat though he does weigh in at about 40 pounds.



Another dog also going to the show is a Basset; here he is being groomed.
