It's just about 12:00 noon my time, so I raise a salute to the Canadian Maple Leaf on this day.
There is some great history on the creation of the flag, and the reasons why what we have now was chosen, on this site:

Congratulations. Yesterday in honor of the occasion I wore my Maple Leaf kilt, raised a wee dram and sang a verse of O Canada as my grandfather taught me:O Canada! Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Vive le Canada
