If you have a cough, take a double dose of Exlax and go to church.

I guarantee you won't dare cough.

Seven to 10 days, isn't that the regular duration of a cold anyways?

Scratchy throat too? There's really not much you can do for a cold except relive the symptoms. Either way, it's going to last 7-10 days, no matter what. There's absolutely no cure for a cold. aliens!!! The only thing my 'wholistic healer' ever taught me that wasn't totally wacky was a symptom remedy:
Raw hot peppers, the kind that make your nose run. Munch 'em whenever you get stuffy.
A cocktail of 2tbsp real apple cider vinegar (the kind with the sediment at the bottom of the bottle) mixed with 1tbsp honey and a little lemon. Warm it up just a bit. Drink it two to three times a day. It's really not that bad.
The vapors of the vinegar help clear your stuffiness, while the vinegar fights germies. The lemon helps with this a little, you could do without it no prob, but it does provide a little bit of Vitamin C.
The honey soothes and coats a raw throat from caughing and sneezing, and helps control it.
Take something like Excedrine for aches. Vitamine C and Zinc can actually shorten the duration of a cold.
Oh, and stay away from sweet drinks and milk. They up mucous production and makes things a whole lot worse. Drink green and herbal teas and PLENTY of water.

I do like hot-n-spicy (salsa, if hot enough, will work, it doesn't need to be peppers) to keep the nose draining, and my wife has me tryin' a bucket-load of herbals (I snore when I get a cold, I go to bed before she does - she gets no sleep) - we'll see. The good news is, in spite of working with kids, this is my first cold in over a year, I think.

I know you are going to think I'm crazy, but as a horse owner I am going to say it I use Zev, it's a Buckleys product for horses, and if you thought the human buckleys tastes awful you should try the horse buckleys.

It has kept bronchitis at bay so for me its worth it, if you can keep this stuff down it will get rid of a cold in a couple of days.
