My family name is english, but I can't resist getting in on this.

    "Vivite et Amate Semper Suspicientos"

Anyone care to hazard a guess? (without Googling it first!)

Is it "live and love, but always with caution" (or suspicion)?

Clan MacKenzie, I refer you to David in Maryland's post.

Although from everything I've read, the Luceo Non Uro - I Shine Not Burn, with the burning mountain top with 3 fires, was adopted after a battle where the MacDonald's set the mountain top across from Eilean Donan castle a blaze. The MacKenzies and MacRaes went on to defeat the MacDonalds and adopted the saying.

Interstingly, according to this site, http://www.cabarfeidh.com/highlanders%20history.htm it is also the only motto written in Gaelic in the British Army. This is likely outdated now given the merged Scottish regiment.

Nice to see more MacKenzie's around here again.

Don't seem to be any other MacRaes on this thread. Our motto FORTITUDINE - With Fortitude.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. We've interpreted it a bit more like "Live and Love, but allways keep a sharp eye" though.
