Help With Loud MacLeod
So I've coveted a Loud MacLeod ever since I saw Jimmy Carbomb's when Steve Ashton told me about this forum. Then Rocky goes and stocks the tartan and I'm now waiting my turn for a semi-trad.
But hey, WHAT do you wear with that tartan????
I've spent a few hours searching this forum and the internet for pics and clues and have only found a few things.
An old pic of Bear in on back in '04. He's wearing a black shirt with the Loud MacLeod tartan kilt.
The College of Wooster (Ohio) has a marching band that wears the tartan. They wear black shirts or jackets with it.
Kilts n' Stuff has a pic of a customer wearing one of their economy kilts in the Loud MacLeod with a white shirt and black PC jacket.
Matt's website has a pic of a Loud MacLeod worn with a white shirt.
That's it. Thinking it through a yellow shirt would be way too much and the yellows would be hard to match. A red shirt to pick up the red stripe would leave a LOT of red with a LOT of yellow...
Black works of course...and white sort of....
Any other ideas for shirt and hose colors with this tartan that I've missed?
Any help appreciated...pics would be fantastic.
Thanks,
Ron

I would think just off the top of my head that oatmeal colour hose and shirt would work, I wonder what a flashes one wears if you dont have flashes in Loud MacLeod.

A white shirt with a red vest worked for me. Panache will be wearing his red polo shirt with his. Our daughter, Xena, wears a red camisole and jean vest with hers.
Be well,

Don't forget your green tights. Then if you wear your Dreadbelly Tam you can look just like a nice pretty flower.

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

Since I'm inclined to wear dark colours, I'd just go with a black shirt (I know, we were supposed to suggest something different ) . A red waistcoat might look good with that too. Of course, black and white go with anything.

Just a thought, not sure if it is a good one or not: How 'bout an orange color to tie together the yellow and the red?

Get one of USA Kilt's red "What's up Yours?" T-shirts. Perfect.

Ron, you wear all of your kilts with style and dignity. Knowing what the tartan looks like, I would still go the more traditional solid black, white or red for a shirt or sweater. Maybe a nice long sleeved rugby or soccer jersey?

There was a forum member that had a pic of his Loud MacLeod. He wore it with a bright YELLOW Jacobite shirt.
He looked like a Scots canary. **Shudder**

I'd go with black or red, or a "neutral" color like oatmeal.
WARNING!!!! Red will look great, BUT WILL be "look at me."
I tend to coordinate with the minor colors in the tartan for ones with a single main tone. One of the reasons I like my worsted Caledonia modern is that there is just enough going on that there is not a single main color, so all the tones look good as coordinators without any one being "too much."
As much as I LOVE school-bus yellow (am wearing a shirt in that tone RIGHT NOW), I'd avoid it with MacLeod "of Lewis" (wife's family has these roots)/Loud MacLeod. (Now with Wallace modern-or Gordon, or Macneil of Barra-, it LOOKS GREAT!!!)
