Great story, sounds like a good first outing, congratulations on the kilt, I too would love to see the pics.

Please, please post pics. I've seen a few of AlanH's X-kilts in person, but am always eager to see more. Now that I've finished the X-Marks tartan kilt for my son, the next step is an X-kilt for an adult (not that Panache needs any more kilts at this point), and I'm eager to see your example.

I also iron on a table, with a thin sheet of plywood and a double-thickness of bath towels underneath. Ironing boards are hard to use as you found out...the fresh presses pull out before you can get to the sewing machine. 
Make another one and you'll cut your time down by at least one-third!
And try here for pelts and lots of other goodies.
